________Truman In His Own World_____

This blog is about The Truman Show. The show where Truman is on television 24/7. Living on Seahaven Island, his world consists of actors; his coworker, his best friend, and even his wife. He is the center of attention, the main actor of the movie. Every thing he does gets on television, no privacy at all. I really felt sorry for Truman, thinking he is someone where he is someone totally different in a fake world with no true friends. That would be like taking the chance to live a life away, to act your whole life and not even know it. If I would be in his position I wouldn't know what to do, it would be a disaster, I would be angry, and upset, and heartbroken all at the same time. I would still do the same thing he did, quit the show and enjoy the rest of the life that is left over for himself. Another dreadful thing is that everybody knows Truman, and everything about him, he had no privacy, and it is going to be very tough for him to settle in to reality.

Advertising - Culturual Domination

“Culture is the place and space where a society tells stories
about itself, where values are articulated and expressed,
where notions of good and evil, of morality and value, are
defined. Every society has a cultural field that talks about
these things. In our culture it is the stories of advertising
that dominate the cultural field. Advertising, in fact, is the
main storyteller of our society” – Sut Jhally

Spoof Ads at Adbusters.org - ads that tell the truth.

Advertising tells people that if you use the product, it will impact your social life, or they make an image that you will feel like being in a fantasy world. Advertising tells us that objects make us happy, the possessions we have, and how it affects other aspects of our life.

I think advertising does affect our society a lot, but only changes it a bit compared to peoples likes, values, traditions, interests, etc. Every society is different, and every society needs a different advertising strategy to affect it the most. There is way too much advertising not so much by trying to let the customers know the product, but because of the competition between competitors, each competitor trying to make their product outstand from the rest, trying to make us buy their product and not other products of the same kind.

Advertising doesn't mirror how people act, but how they are dreaming"

This ad would appeal to people by the shiny red Mercedes with a matching black-red background. It would also appeal to people that know the brand and like the brand, because they know what it is about. It is appealing by the car being lit up, but partially still under a shadow. This ad doesn't reflect reality because the Mercedes is standing on a virtual background and not in reality, just a black and red background, with the car being reflected off at the bottom.

This ad would appeal to people by showing a enlarged hand holding a small glass of pepsi, making it look like a very small glass, so the mini can looks even larger than the glass. The ad also has a blue background to reflect the main color of Pepsi, and to make the actual subject more and faster visible.

My personal opinion is that advertising doesnt try to make us happy by selling us the product, but by trying to make the profit off of the product they advertise, even though they make an impression that they would like to satisfy the customer only, which is what they should do to get more customers buying the product, and get their product well known. My opinion on advertisers blending in reality with fantasy and mirror how people are dreaming is fine to advertise the product, but it is often misleading from the actual truth of the product, and becomes a false advertisement.

My favorite advertisement is a coke ad. The Ad can be viewed below this text. I like it and is effective by showing a man which first looks like a criminal, be the a guy that helps people out and makes them happy by giving them a coke to drink. I also like it because it is visualized in a video game style world. The message in the song is if you give a little love then it all comes back to you, which shows that people will love you for giving them a coke.

A Little Bit About Me

I'm Josef and live in Steinbach for 1.5 years. I'm 17 years young. I attended the Green Valley School in Grunthal before the SRSS. I work at Superstore. I play soccer, but not on a team, just every week with some friends. My major is Industrial Design and I enjoy it a lot; visualizing and drawing 3D images, and floorplans. And ya that's a little tiny bit about me. (Oh and ya that is my favorite car up there, the BMW M3.)
